Matt and I did something that I thought was totally crazy, but Kasey assured me it was really "a very American" thing to do. We jumped on a plane and headed out of state to go to a college football game. Not just any college game but a UT football game. The last home football game of the season and last for the seniors.



How did we become UT fans? Well it really is Dish networks fault. You see they don't carry the Mountain channel so we never got any Utah/BYU games, so we had to adopt an outside team. We started watching UT last fall and really enjoy watching them. So they became our team.

Yes I have told a few of you that Colt McCoy is my boyfriend but no that is not true. :( After being at the game I don't think I was the only one who thought he was their "someone special". (Love you Matt)

Matt is very supportive of my obsession and actually arranged this trip. We have a great friend/home teacher who is a pilot for Southwest who offered to get us buddy passes. Wow! What a guy! After that we bought tickets and away we went!

Casey and Dana offered to let us stay with them so we said sure and were so glad we did. We had the best time hanging out with them and their super cute kids! Little Owen reminds me so much of Ty when he was little.

It was a little stressful at times. We had to fly standby so we left our house at 4:30 AM. That was okay but the kids had to get themselves up and to school alone. Then when I called after school to make sure everyone was okay Ty said he was sick. My mom came and got them and took them to her house for the weekend. Saturday when I called she said Ty threw up that night. Gulp...guilt. Mom took him to the doctor and guess what...Strep. Ahhh.

All in all we had a great time and I am so glad we went!

Happy Birthday Bruce!

When it comes to Bruce there is always a good story attached. Here are some of my favorites.

* When he was a teenager he snuck up on Jeff on the stairs and scared him to death.
* When he came home from Hawaii and mom didn't recognize him at the airport.
* When he came home from his mission he purposely snuck past his family and went to the baggage claim. (That serves them right for being late.)
* When he broke both his knuckles on Greg's head and then lied about how it happened.
* When he broke his tailbone in the MTC playing basketball in his room.
* When Liz said she hoped he wouldn't ask her to marry him.
* When Ty was little and most people could not understand him we went camping with Bruce and his family. Ty walked up to Bruce and asked him a question to which Bruce said okay. Ty then turned around and walked away happy. Bruce turned to us and asked what did I just agree to? Matt and I just laughed and said, you just told him he could sleep in the motor home with you.

There are many more stories and lots of adventures but we must keep some things secret. (After all, mom and dad do have access to this post.) LOL

Thanks to our Family

We had a nice evening together at Tibi and Jeff's; dinner, laughs and hugs. What a great family we have. The blanket was made and presented to us. Note that there are two unnamed who will be joining the family soon. They seem to be coming fast these days.

Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary!

Mom and Dad will celebrate 50 years together on Friday, November 27th. To celebrate, the immediate family got together for dinner and laughs! Congrats Mom and Dad. We love you!

Happy Birthday Roxanne!

My favorite Roxanne memory took place boating at Bear Lake. Stephanie decided to water ski so she got in the water, put on the skis and yelled hit it. Much to the surprise of everyone she did not get up. (All the Maw's are REQUIRED to be great water skiers and they all are!) Roxanne thought this was very humorous and a great opportunity to tease her baby sister. She told everyone to yell out advise to Stephanie when the boat came around to give her the rope. So as the boat got closer everyone from Brig to Jeff started yelling out advise. This is the chorus she heard. "Keep your knees bent" Hold on to the rope" "Lean back" "Keep your arms straight" "Sit on the back of your ski" "Put your knees to your chest" Stephanie took this all very well and we had a great laugh!

• When you beat up that 6th grader when you were in 2nd grade because he cut in line to the drinking fountain? And...
  
• When you and your friend tackled me and shoved a skittle up my nose? And...
• When we used to play dunk ball in our backyard for hours until our hands were bloody from dunking it so much? And...
• When I drove my friends and yours to a Davis High football game in the old cadillac (I think there were at least 17 kids in the car)? And...
• When I got married right before Mom and Dad went to Russia and they felt terrible that you'd be left alone (so they showered you with money and food)? And...
  
• When you almost broke your toe off at Fine Woodworking and I had to haul you to the emergency room?
• And I could go on and on....

I thought of a story with Haley... About 10 years ago I had a hideous mustache (when I see pictures of it I cringe). We visited the Scadlocks in St. George, and Becky had been trying to get me to shave the mustache off for a long time. Becky hated it...but had been unsuccessful at getting me to get rid of it....

Then came along two innocent sweet nieces of mine who told me that I was hideously UGLY with the mustache. These two (one of them being Haley, and the other one will remain nameless) were relentless and ruthless in their personal attacks as they harrassed me to shave the mustache.

I couldn't take it any longer, so I caved to the pressure and shaved it right then! Becky was overjoyed!

Conversations at the Gym!

I joined a military boot camp gym the 3rd week in January and it has been going well. I have lost over 4 inches and 9 pounds. I know for going 3x's a week for 10 months you would think it would be more, but that's what you get when you like chocolate so much. Anyway, I always like it when a new person joins our session because then our trainer takes the heat off of us "veterans" and puts it on the "newbie". Today a girl in my class (who joined last month) told me she has been keeping a blog of her experience, so I went home and checked it out. After I got up off the floor from laughing so hard I thought I have to share some of her comments because they are seriously so funny and so very, very true! I hope you enjoy!

Day 1

9:00 am – Arrived at Jim’s Gym

9:35 am – Threw up in Jim’s Gym bathroom

Note to self: Don’t eat breakfast – even if it is an hour and a half before. But hey, at least my detour gave me a chance to take a break.

Bring on tomorrow.

Day 2

Conversation of the Day:

Jim (being military-ish, I guess): “No taking breaks. Are you handicapped in some way? Do you have a crippling disease?”

Me: “Does not exercising for two years count?”

At least Jim asked me nicely. Maybe he really wanted to know the answer. Ummm….probably not.

Day 3

Death by push-up equipment thing. Yes, it is possible.

Day 4

Jim (in the middle of the workout): “Get on the treadmill for five minutes. Don’t change the speed and don’t hold on.”

Two minutes later (I know because I was watching the time with an eagle eye)…

Jim: “Kolette, that’s not just holding on, that’s a death grip!”

Day 5

“Walk faster with higher resistance or you’ll do 10 extra mountain climbers, Kolette.” “Run from machine to machine, Kolette.” “Do jumping jacks while you wait.” “Breaks are for Gold’s Gym. We don’t take breaks here.”

Ahhh……blessed treadmill.

Day 6

Jim (in the attempt to motivate): “Do you want me to show you how I can do it twice as fast?”

Me: “No.”

Of course you can do it twice as fast or twice as good or twice as long, Jim. That’s why people don’t pay me to be their trainer. Duh. If you couldn’t do it better with your fierce muscles then I would be concerned. So no, I don’t want to see you do it better than me. Thanks, though.

I seriously am still laughing! This girl is hilarious and has the "Jim" thing down pretty good.

Just a side note. I love my trainer Jim, he is tough and is always pushing me to be better, stronger, faster and with his help one day I just might be a better runner.

Happy Birthday to the first Josh to join our family. You sure are a trend setter!

I remember hearing a conversation about Josh before I had even met him. We were at the Maw's for a family dinner and Holly asked Nikki how "the boyfriend" was to which Nikki got all googlie eyed and shyly said good. That's when we knew he was something special.

We don't see Josh and Nikki very often but they sure are a lot of fun when we do get to hang out with them. We hope you have a great birthday and take a break from work and school to do something fun! Kiss that cute baby for us and we hope to see you soon!

I like to recall some memory of those who have birthdays. I just remember that you were the super athletic one as we grew up. I really couldn't compete against you in most things, but I do remember that me and my friends played against you and Jon Reese in rollerblade hockey there in the church parking lot behind our house. For the first time ever, I was able to beat you at something. I got a glimps at your competitiveness because you never quit, no matter how frustrated you got with trying to skate around.

J. Willard

I just thought I would let everyone know that J. Willard does have Down's Syndrome. We are not sure what implications this will have, but we are not worried. We are grateful to have a healthy, beautiful boy, and know that Heavenly Father has a plan for our little family. We are so excited to be J. Willard's parents and can feel his strong spirit. He is a joy in our lives. We love you all and thank you for your prayers and love.

Happy Birthday Dain!

Dain has always been a fun nephew. I have tons of fun memories of babysitting Dain when he was just a young one. The first diaper I ever changed was on Dain, and I remember that after I finished changing it...it was on sideways! Brenda had a good laugh about that one.

I remember when Dain was about 4 years old, and he was running around the house singing his own version of "Walk Like An Egyptian", althought his lyrics sounded more like "Walk like Ma-DIP-shun". There was no way of convincing him that he wasn't singing it right!

I also had a good laugh one time when Brenda was trying to discipline Dain when he was about 3 or 4 years old. Brenda told him to do something, but he wouldn't do it, so Brenda started counting, "One!"... "Two!"...and before she could say the next one we heard a very tentative whisper come from Dain, "three?" Brenda couldn't keep a straight face after that!

Holly is the most optimistic person I know! When things are hard and life stinks she seems to be able to hold it all together and go forward with a positive attitude. She just radiates positiveness.

I want to share what Elder Holland said in the September '09 Ensign.

"When lonely, cold hard times come, we have to endure, we have to continue, we have to persist. That was the Savior's message...Keep knocking on that door. Keep pleading. In the meantime, we know that God hears your cries and knows your distress. He is your Father, and you are His child."

This passage has stayed with me ever since I read it. I just love it! Remember Holly you are amazing, keep knocking on that door!

For those who think I do nothing but study :)

I'm not as much of a study nerd as you all think I am. Ok, I admit I have been in the past but I've since found some time to enjoy college a little. Confession..... I didn't study at all, barely, my first week or on the weekend. Instead I found some better things to do: 80's dance, bear lake, and then more dance parties. :D

I think we spiced up the 80's.... or did you guys look this good?

We chose a really cloudy, non-sunny day to go to the lake... it was freezing.
